Dr Hugo Fernandes is a consultant gynaecologist practicing in Melbourne, Victoria. He has established himself as an advanced laparoscopic gynaecological surgeon having completed 6 years of specialty training and a further 2-year fellowship in advanced endoscopic surgery at The Royal Women’s Hospital, where he remains a consultant.

Whilst Hugo manages all gynaecological problems, he has a special interest in:

  • Endometriosis, Adenomyosis, Pelvic Pathology & Pelvic Pain
  • Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery
  • Menstrual Disorders & Fibroids
  • Laparoscopic Hysterectomy
  • Laparoscopic Myomectomy
  • Infertility
  • Colposcopy

Hugo’s main rooms are in Richmond  at the Epworth Hospital where he holds various consulting sessions throughout the week. He also has regular sessions at John Fawkner Hospital in Coburg, St. Vincent’s Private Hospital  in Fitzroy and The Central Clinic  in Warragul. Patients requiring a Colposcopy should have their appointments booked at Richmond or Fitzroy.

Hugo is a specialist consultant with appointments on 2 laparoscopic units at The Royal Women’s Hospital and the gynaecology unit at Monash Health.

Referrals & Emergencies

Dr Hugo is always happy to receive gynaecology and fertility referrals, especially in his areas of special interest. As he focuses only on the management of gynaecological issues, Dr Hugo is able to see your patients quickly at any of his consulting locations and ensure quick management. You can facilitate your patients’ review by passing on a referral and organising a good quality pelvic ultrasound before the appointment.

Dr Hugo is always happy to take calls in relation to pressing medical matters and give sensible phone advice on the management of acute conditions. In the case of an emergency, please forward the patient as required to the closest Emergency Department or alternatively the Emergency department at Epworth Richmond.
